Finding Inspiration in Daily Existence ….
Sunday had started like most every other day in New York during the month of March; overcast, solemn and a bit melancholy; unpredictable, damp yet hopeful of spring. The calendar signaled a religious and cultural holiday for the Irish and in my home there was cause for celebration. It was our dog’s birthday which provided, in my mind, the perfect excuse to get out and fight the blues of a lazy afternoon.
With boots tightly fastened and walking sticks in the trunk, we set out with our check list of tasks for the day, which included a hike and maybe some shopping along the way. Our destination was determined, though some room was left open for spontaneity. We had not decided on what trails to cover or how long to stay. After all, children are as unpredictable as the weather and the clouds did hover low which seemed a bit overpowering.
We arrived without much ado. The dog and children slept and there was very little traffic getting to the lake. It wasn’t long before we adjusted our coats, put on our gloves and decided on a trail. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary; no snowflake out of place; no tree bearing its fruit.
Slowly and quietly the lake continued its task of wearing away its bed. Mud replaced dirt, while little creatures scurried about seemingly without a care. Everything seemed organized and meticulously placed for my eyes to feast on; the bird’s nest, the geese swimming on the lake, even the old tree trunk was there in just such a way to lend me support from sliding rocks and wet grass.
In the distance I heard the determined steps of the children, who have, as a matter of course, become my achievements of day to day living, as well as tomorrow’s promise. I allowed them to walk ahead; to chase the dog and to frolic with exuberance while I smiled and slowed down to a calculated and more methodical pace. I felt weighed down by thoughts, only this time, refused to dismiss them, just as we had dismissed the cold and the threat of rain.
I want them to deepen, to blossom and grow, I thought; to understand that spiritually, we are being guided and so we must pay attention. I want them to move on and to move forward; to focus on their wants and needs; to know that the answers are there to be found, experienced and understood.
To know as well that life is naturally progressing forward, and to overcome challenges; to learn to pay attention to instincts and what they tell us. We must be fully aware of all that is happening around us.
My children think this was just a hike, but it was not, for I believe it is in nature where full comprehension of divine law is understood. There, we can find divine value in our everyday existence. It is there when material possession becomes obsolete and we are rewarded with a spiritual liberty.
There’s no lust, envy, hatred, delusions of wealth or even egoistic mortal conquests in nature. There is no bigotry, fanaticism, intolerance or even atrocities committed in games of power. There is no doctrine that betrays itself. There is only a truth waiting to be revealed and to be discovered by the human soul.
There is meaning in nature; a kind of purposeful meaning found in adaptability. It is there too, where we find love.
To Find Love is to Know God ~
When we feel this love, accentuated by a peace within, the world around us becomes a more peaceful place. This creates a happiness, which in do doubt, is linked to our spiritual evolution. It is through understanding nature that growth and progress is achieved. I believe in this premise as a kind of infinite reality; a divinity of values which carries the potential to drive a civilized society to focus on the attainment of the highest good.
Our hope for a better world is dependent on this understanding. If we are to progress and enlighten the soul, we must be mindful of our physical environment as well as our divine obligations to it.
Therefore, I encourage all to walk confidently and consistently in nature. Find God in nature and you will find him in your soul for truth is living and this revelation will be validated only through this very experience. Seek truth there and you will live it. Seek goodness there and you will find it in congruence with the human soul. Seek beauty there and it will reflect within your heart. Such is the burning light of moral consciousness.
Commit to progress; to bettering yourself and in turn, the lives of others. This is a natural born healing ability. This is your innate source of power. Feel that there exists a light that radiates hope and optimism from your being. Let this light envelop you and nurture your joy. Do not try to define this joy however, because just as love cannot be weighed in a balance, joy cannot be measured under a microscope. Flow, still and quiet, while the Universe replaces, adapts and molds your understanding. Do all you can, in your own way, and by no small measure, you will make yourself available to love.
Thank You … I wish you a Wonderful Week Ahead… Maritza
